Ahmed Chalabi - Crook - Liar
As I have previously posted here, it is just beyond my level of comprehension that any administration that considers itself to operate on a higher moral plane would have the timerity to provide Ahmed Chalabi a world stage. It would not be out of character for this administration to refuse to deal with him at all, as they treated Yassir Arafat. Yet, "Spokesmen for both Mr. Snow and Ms. Rice said they were meeting with Mr. Chalabi, despite past events, because he is a powerful government figure in Iraq. State Department Iraq adviser James Jeffery said Mr. Chalabi `is deputy prime minister of a critically important country at a critically important time, he was democratically elected, and it's on that basis that we see him'. " Wow, but Chalabi must must be really important. I say that because Bush refused to deal with the leader of our largest trading partner in the entire world (Canada) for 4 years. Bush also refused to have a summit with one of our more important European allies (Germany's Schoeder) for more than 4 years.

My bullshit detector is glowing red I wonder why?

Yet for someone who has lied to us to get us to go to war we have open arms. Unbelieveable!  My protestations are feeble when compared with Congressman George Miller.

Also, it seems almost conspiratorial that the FBI does a half-assed job investigating the provenance of the forged Niger documents and drags its feet investigating Chalabi. You don't think politics has anything to do with it, do you?

Also see my previous post on Chalabi. http://tarbaby.blogdrive.com/archive/135.html

You Can Indict a Ham Sandwhich
Think Progess has this piece:
Kristol: "If the White House Manipulated Intel, "It Might Well Be an Indictable Offense".

Well do you really think so?

Could you be sued if you yelled, "FIRE" in a crowded theater and someone died and you knew there was no fire?  If prosecutors could show that you had a reasonable expectation that not only would someone get hurt but someone would get killed do you think you could go to jail? How much of a stretch is it to go from that scenario to creating a war based on false evidence? If you create a war do you think anyone will get killed? Duh!

If you can indict a ham sandwhich I sure as hell hope you can indict those responsible for taking us to war under false pretenses! If our system of government can't do that it can not provide for our security and something needs to be changed.

New Rule
The terms Iraq War or the War in Iraq are no longer operative. The fact that the war took place in Iraq is merely a coincidence. What is not a coincidence is that the war was brought on by George Bush and is wholly of his making. Hence, this war should properly be called exactly what it is Bush's War. George Bush deserves the credit. All of us should give it to him.

Could This Be Dick?
This is a repost from another blog but this idea and the possibility of this idea deserves the widest dissemination possible.

What Are They Thinking?
Is it that once you start making wrong decisions that it kind of seems you keep on making them? Well if you look at the Bush administration that seems to be the case. "A nationwide poll by Survey USA of 600 adults in each state showed that 66 percent of Americans say the nation is headed in the wrong direction. Twenty-nine percent say the U.S. is going in the right direction. " http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?section=local&id=3556991

Now suppose you have a friend who comes over to your house and provides evidence that your wife is cheating on you with multiple partners. You divorce your wife, are forced to sell the house, lose custody of the kids and can only see them at times not really suitable for your schedule. So you seldom see them at all. You are forced to borrow heavily to carry out the divorce and you find yourself on the brink of bankruptcy. Then slowly information comes out that your friend was just feeding you false information. Nothing he told you turns out to be true. But not only that, this FORMER friend of yours found out your business secrets and gave them to your competitors causing you considerable difficulty in securing your exposure in competion with them.

So when all is said and done do you invite this friend to your house for beer and watch the football game? Cook him a juicy steak for supper and act like bygones will be bygones? Well that is what we are doing with Ahmed Chalabi.  "Face-to-face meetings with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and probably other senior Bush administration officials await Ahmed Chalabi as the Iraqi deputy prime minister pursues political rehabilitation in Washington". http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2005/11/04/national/w130903S85.DTL

Chalabi should be hotter than Nagasaki on August 10th 1945. The fellow should be so damn radioactive he glows in the dark and yet we are going to feast him and treat him to a rehabilitation. Is there any wonder why people think this country is headed in the wrong direction? And who is making any noise about all of this? If the Democrats ever had something to unite over this would be it. Ahmed Chalabi is no friend of my America and we should make no pretense that he is.

The New York Times
Do you give a tinkers damn whether Judy Miller goes back to the New York Times or does not? I sure as hell don't. I was a daily reader. Without my NYT fix I just did not know what was going on in the world. And then I came to slowly realize that some of the much less heralded news establishments actaully did a lot better job of reporting the news.
Oh yeah, the slide from reading the NYT every day to not reading at all has been a gradual one. After learning that Miller was a funnel for propaganda I started looking at a number of news sources to inculde Knight Ridder papers for a different take on things. I also read the Guardian and any number of other sources and sort of picked my way through the news. For a long time I still had the editorials of the New York Times. Then the paper sought to capitalize on its one redeeming virtue by charging to read what their editorial writers had to say. Truthfully, I miss their insight and their ability to bring a point home.
Before I trust the NYT again will take some major doing. A full, real accounting by Judy Miller would be a good start. Not that we don't pretty well know what happened, but confession might indicate she and the Times have learned something. But actually that would be a reporters job, to tell us what our governement is really up to. Judy might want to read what one of her former collegues James Reston had to say about an informed public being necessary to a democracy and lying to her readers.
Being a realist, all I can say is goodbye New York Times. You sure were great once.

Dentist Visit
I went to the dentist office yesterday for my annual cleaning. As is the usual case I had to wait to be called. Fortunately for a news freak like me they had a relatively current issue of Newsweek to look at. I found this rather telling cartoon while looking through the magazine. This is not the original cartoon but my copy from memory and my limited abilities with my various drawing/image programs.

One thing you must admit though, this explains a lot about all the the various Al Qaeda hierarchy we have been killing and capturing.

Subtrifuge 101
Ok boys and girls I would like to introduce you to the term, "RED HERRING".

Fox hunters once tossed smoked red herrings out to test whether their dogs could stay on the right trail. Now, of course, the term means a distraction from the real issue.

Now that you know what this term means watch how often and who tries to divert your attention with a Red Herring.
